As we move toward spring, the risk of COVID-19 and its variants remains. We continue to follow the Province of New Brunswick’s health and safety measures to keep each other safe.

Our top priority is to provide UNB’s Class of 2021 with a graduation experience that celebrates and recognizes all that you have achieved. In an effort to keep you, your families and the UNB community safe, we will be hosting virtual Encaenia and Spring Convocation ceremonies. The events will be streamed over YouTube and shown on select UNB social media platforms.

Virtual ceremonies will provide all graduates, wherever they are, with an equal opportunity to participate and celebrate their academic achievements in the safest way possible.

More information surrounding the virtual ceremonies will become available in the coming weeks as we put our efforts into planning memorable ceremonies worthy of your accomplishments.

Academic dress

Academic dress is typically worn at graduation ceremonies and includes the academic robe (gown), hood and mortar board. The regalia worn by each participant depends upon the academic level attained: Bachelors, Masters and Doctorates. See a guide to UNB's ceremonial dress.

Rent regalia or purchase souvenir regalia from our provider Gaspard:

Students who rent their regalia early can keep their hood and gown until after the graduation date.

We are looking for a student representative from each campus to offer a valedictory address to fellow graduating students, faculty and guests.

One student from UNB’s Fredericton campus and one from UNB’s Saint John campus will be selected. Each valedictory address will be streamed during the virtual ceremony.

The nomination period for valedictorian candidates has now closed. Valedictorians for both campuses will be announced in mid-April.
